This weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa took part in an event with team partner Shell reliving the spirit of the 1955 Belgian Grand Prix and celebrating 60 years of the partnership between the two companies.

A film was shown to an invited audience, which has also been made available on You Tube and is posted below.

Sorry that something went wrong, repeat again!

What a fabulous half hour. Thanks Shell & James for making this available. Can the dvd version be bought ?

James, that’s a brilliant film. Thank you. I’ve just realised something (belatedly and possibly stupidly)…Fangio and Moss run the ‘Training Car’ in practice prior to their race cars…is that why the teams have traditionally referred to their spare car as T-Car?

That is correct

Is that the voice of Leonard Setright delivering the narration?

How complicated and expensive it has all become in comparison to those days.

Thanks James.

Ok, so Ferrari put on an event where a film showcasing a dominant Mercedes 1-2 finish was shown?!? I don’t get it. Did Shell work with Mercedes back then, or something?

What a fantastic film, thank you Shell and James.

But you can’t help but notice that it was a Mercedes that was out in front in 1955 : just like Saturday in 2013.

All due respect to Shell and Ferrari but as a Brit I have to hope it’s another Hamilton/Mercedes win on Sunday.

I won’t mind if a Ferrari is third, just like in 1955

Crazy that in those days, they actually thought it safer to be thrown from the car in the event of an accident, hence no seatbelts!

Still hard to believe that they kept on driving in the 1960 Belgian GP, without even a break, after everything that happened. I know it was a different mentality then, but even still, it seemed quite heartless and cold.

As for the pic, have to think Alonso got first dibs on kit … better hat, and no suspenders. Massa got the leftovers.

Mike from Colombia

Alonso looks elegant.

Massa drew the short straw and those braces and hat make the whole setup very camp !

Would LOVE to see Kimi and Mika cast in this instead! 🙂

I enjoyed it. Thanks. After all venomous gossip of the summer break…!

Good old days.
