Caterham boss Tony Fernandes has said that his team’s failure over the last four years, particularly 2013 where the team finished last out of 11 teams, has made his team stronger. Announcing his driver line up of Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson at a launch event in the team’s Leafield HQ this morning, Fernandes said, “It’s a critical season. Graham Macdonald has today been appointed as the new CEO of the Caterham Group, taking the reins from Riad Asmat and assuming responsibility over all arms of the group, including F1. Macdonald, previously CEO of Caterham Cars, will now oversee a range of aspects, including the Formula One team and Mike Gascoyne’s Technology and Composite departments. Caterham F1 owner Tony Fernandes says it is “not essential” that his team beat Marussia and finish 10th in the constructors’ championship this season. There are 11 teams but prize-money is only awarded to the top 10 teams in the constructors’ championship.
