

Ma Qing Ha will become the first Chinese driver to compete in his home grand prix weekend, when he replaces Charles Pic in first practice on Friday for the Chinese Grand Prix. The 25-year-old has competed in four practice sessions previously with HRT, but this will be his first outing since signing for Caterham as reserve driver. Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul says he is happy with the team’s progress at this stage of the season after they scored a double-finish in the Malaysian Grand Prix. Caterham’s Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde have declared themselves happy with the 2013 car’s progress after the final test before the season opener in Melbourne. While last year’s driver line-up of Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov had seven years of Formula 1 experience between them, Pic and van der Garde have just one.
