Honda’s motorsport chief Yasuhisa Arai has revealed that the Japanese company will only supply McLaren in 2015, ruling out the possibility of customer power units in the short term. “For year 2015, McLaren is our only customer,” said Arai at the Chinese Grand Prix. “I don’t think about the future, because we want to concentrate on next season. “Of course we want to have good results next season and see the results from other manufacturers. Here is something a little different: Honda, which is gearing up for a return to F1 in 2015, has made a commercial in Japan featuring acoustic technology which allows them to recreate Senna’s pole lap at Suzuka from 1989. It’s eery and exciting and shows amazing ambition. Honda will return to Formula 1 as an engine supplier with McLaren in 2015 to revive their famous partnership which brought domination of the sport in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Japanese company had its own team between 2006 and 2008, but during that time, it managed just one win – the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix with Jenson Button – and the manufacturer ended the project at the end of 2008, as the global economic crisis struck.
