A helmet used by Sebastian Vettel to win his home Grand Prix this year has broken the record for the largest sum paid for an F1 driver’s helmet, at £72,100. The helmet went under the hammer at a Bonhams’ auction in aid of Wings for Life, the spinal injury charity which is linked to Red Bull. Vettel has a new helmet design for more or less every race – so each one is unique – which is one of the aspects that adds value on the rare occasion one of them comes up for sale.
