This weekend there has been a lot of talk about the 2014 rules and the possibility of making some changes, under pressure from Red Bull and Ferrari in particular. We’ve had lots of comments, especially in light of the criticism voiced by Red Bull’s Adrian Newey on Friday, and here we post one of the most eloquent and well argued of them, to give a fan’s perspective and to give voice to the views of those who watch the sport week in week out. Both Ferrari and Red Bull and their senior figures have been talking down the sport recently, More…

Many F1 fans have found themselves without tickets for upcoming Grands Prix, including the British GP at Silverstone, despite paying for them, due to the apparent closure of a business called Simply The Ticket. Fans, many of whom are travelling to Valencia this week for the European GP, became alarmed when tickets did not arrive and have been trying to get information over the weekend. The company’s website and Twitter account were inactive at the start of the week, but on Tuesday the following message appeared: “Dear British Grand Prix Customers, Your tickets will be despatched during the week commencing More…

During 2011 JA on F1 reached out to F1 fans like never before, playing a central role in organising and hosting the three FOTA Fans Forums in Montreal, Woking and Milan, organising one of the first UK screenings of “Senna” for over 200 fans with a star studded list of speakers, sending 14 fans to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and last month we sent a fan ambassador to Abu Dhabi in conjunction with our partner Shell. Among other initiatives we ran for fans around the British Grand Prix was a fun programme to convert a sceptic to F1 by using the crossover appeal of the Senna film to win them over. The prize was a weekend at the British Grand Prix, with a grandstand and hotel package kindly donated by the title sponsor, Santander. Hayley Fox and her husband won it and here’s her account of her first F1 experience. Hayley Fox writes: “We received our tickets on Thursday and with that my husband became an excited child again, I will admit that I too was More…

Today we ran the JA on F1 pits stop challenge outside the Hilton in Park Lane, London. The event was laid on by McLaren sponsor Hilton and we had a car for an hour, plus instruction from experienced McLaren mechanics. It was another example of giving a fans a chance to get up close to the sport and find out what it takes to perform one of the most high pressure jobs in a Grand Prix weekend. Some of the best drilled pit crews are doing pit stops of all four wheels in under four seconds this season, so how More…

After last weekend’s radio special on TalkSport went so well, I’m taking part in the Eddie Irvine post race show on Sunday at 8pm. It will just be a short analysis segment from me, but the producers are looking for some fans to take part in the discussion and give their points of view and ask Eddie anything they want about the race. If you want to take part please let me know in the comments section at the end of this post and we will pick two or three people at random. We’ll email in the morning to get More…

Ibrahim Patel won the FX Pro competition here on the JA on F1 site for grandstand tickets to the British Grand Prix and a paddock visit to the Virgin Racing team. I met up with him in the paddock on Saturday shortly after the final practice session. Here is his account of his experience: Ibrahim Patel writes: “Me and my brother being long time F1 followers really looked forward to this weekend, ever since Q1 at Valencia thanks to Lucas and his great lap to beat Timo for the first time of the year. The experience was just amazing, especially More…
