Felipe Massa gave local drivers in Sepang pulling into their local petrol station the ultimate expert service on Thursday as the Brazilian turned pump attendant.

As part of a promotional event for the Malaysian division of Ferrari’s fuel partner Shell, Massa appeared at the Yazn Enterprise filling station and was there to greet Ferrari road car drivers on the forecourt as well as competition winners who got the chance to meet the 11-time grand prix winner.

“It is great to meet fans on a day like this. Shell works extremely hard with Ferrari to develop Shell V-Power for Formula One cars, so it is great to see the benefit it has for everyday road fuels,” Massa said.

Last year, as explained in a JA on F1 feature, Ferrari and Shell carried out a revealing experiment in which Fernando Alonso ran both Shell V Power road and race fuel in the 2009 Ferrari to see the difference between the two types in both lap time and performance – which showed fuel used on the road was much closer to the F1 mixture than might be expected.

Shell V-Power road fuel has 99 per cent of the same components as the Shell V-Power race fuel being used by Ferrari in the 2012 season and Shell V-Power Unleaded contains the same friction modification technology which is designed to help deliver more power from the first fill.

  1. Andy says:

Is it PR or work experience?

  2. Jamie Ramsamy says:

I suppose he should get used to this sorta work. Any more crappy performances and this will become his reality…bwahahahaha! ahem…

  3. Charlie says:

Good to see Felipe getting some on-the-job training in for his new role next year :-)

  4. Lewis says:

I imagine this is Ferrari preparing him for his next job when they give him the boot.

  5. Stephen Hill says:

    “Ferrari road car drivers”

Except the car in the headline photo is a Fiat Coupe.

    1. Matt Larkin says:

      Same thing :-)

  6. A glimpse into the future.

  7. Mike C says:

    Watch out Filipe,

    This could become full time…

  8. brendan says:

well he might need a new occupation soon. at least it would keep him in the family

  9. Jeremy says:

Sorry to be harsh to Felipe, but alternative employment photo shoots are just about the last thing he needs. Can see a whole load of captions with those photos !!!

In my humble opinion, Perez and any other current driver are not going to “swap” with Massa during this season. Kubica is a no chance I think in 2012. Hmmmmm, that leaves Jarno, and Quick Nick leading the drivers with experience/development skills in top flight cars and Pirelli tyres. Please No not quite so Quick Nick. Remember how Fischella & Badoer faired with a tricky Ferrari…. They will stick with him, I don’t see a choice this year.
Next year will see a different number 2 in the Ferrari.

  10. Iwan says:

Good idea getting some experience in another field…

  11. Luca says:

hope this isn’t work experience for a 2013 job application

  12. Laurence H says:

Can I be about the 20th person to say that it’s good that Massa is looking at alternatives to his current employment…

  13. CTP says:

It’ll be good practice for next year… it’s always good to keep your career options open.

  14. Thebe says:

I must say it was really sad to watch him in Australia. I rate that as probably his worst performances .

  15. nick says:

He will be in NASCAR next year.

    1. Don Farrell says:

can he move to nascar today? :)

  16. Don Farrell says:

Today’s PR stunt for Shell couldn’t have happened at a worse time for Massa… he’s a nice guy but his days as Ferrari #2 have to come to an end soon… he just volunteer to leave now – walk away and keep his bruised reputation intact.
